The Approach to Supervision
Beryl views supervision as more than a space to answer the question, “What should I do next with this client?”
Good supervision can also help us think more deeply about:
- how we understand the client and their presentation;
- why we are choosing a particular intervention;
- what may be happening within the therapeutic relationship;
- how our own responses may influence the clinical work;
- and how we continue developing our own professional identity as psychologists.
Her supervision style is collaborative, reflective and formulation-focused. Depending on your needs and stage of professional development, supervision may include discussion of clinical cases, assessment and diagnostic reasoning, therapeutic processes, ethical and professional issues, reflective practice, and the integration of theory into everyday clinical work.
She aims to provide a space where supervisees can think openly, ask questions, explore uncertainty and gradually develop greater confidence in their own clinical judgement.
